Error 609 Found: Love and Commitment Myths

Image
So, someone asked me, what would you choose between love and commitment? And I asked, Does not Love and Commitment go hand in hand? You should never commit to someone; you are not in love with- that is like cheating on to yourself. When you commit to someone you don’t love, who are you fooling other than yourself. When you say that I love you, and I cannot live without you to someone you definitely don’t love and can evidently live without- Who did you fool? We are fools to think that people cheat on others. Committing to someone you do not actually love is the first step to self-betrayal. Everything that you do later is just an add-on cheese to that layer of self-betrayal. However, when you are in love and you are committed. You need to keep loving that person because we don’t make commitments to the other person. A commitment is a promise you made not just to your beloved, but also to yourself. Backing out is like breaking a promise you made to yourself. Once you are com...

10 Negative BUT Important Vices for Life: Being Mean

Image
I can say, it has been ages since I was sitting inside a classroom and within a lesson our teacher suddenly shifted his focus to an out-of-syllabus question. He asked, " Do you know the importance of knowing a common language ?" The classroom waited in awe and wonder. He kept strolling from one end of the classroom to the other end: from the backbencher wall to the front-bencher blackboard. After three or four such rounds he said, " it brings an instant connection between two people ". Then, he expanded his theory by giving an example and saying " most of you sitting  here , have their mother tongue Bengali, right? All of you are classmates. But then... " he pointed out to six boys sitting in the fourth and fifth benches from the back, "... you six are friends, you have made a small group of yours because you identify your family background as the ones who speak in Hindi. "  Mind you, sir was not being racist or a communist here. He was just br...

What is so difficult about Trying?

Image
Over the last few days, I have been playing basketball in my courtyard. It is nothing professional. It is just a recreational activity without a cemented court or rules. My mother had planned to tuck a basket at a good enough height at the anterior wall, and now I have been playing basketball, where my premium activity is to basket the ball without anyone snatching it away from my hands.  Let me tell you a secret? It is very tiring. Almost equal to giving up.  Every time I throw the ball above at it, the ball either gets hit on the wall and bounces back (not at me) at the other end of the yard. I would rush to catch it (without success) and run till the end of the fences where the ball had almost nowhere to go. I will take it back and try again and again it would get hit on the wall and push me to rush at some other direction. Tiring stuff. Fun yes, Tiring more.  It was tiring, because I was trying.  One of the hardest things about trying is that we feel we are not d...

There is Nothing that is Called an Early Success

Image
There is nothing that is called an early success. You have to begin early working on it. I have often contemplated over the last few months during my early 24s how I have not yet achieved anything in my music or writing career. And then look at these motivating and inspiring stars like Durjoy Dutta and Armaan Malik. They are already doing things they want. Earning from their passion and most importantly fulfilling the dreams of their parents and buying them everything they deserve. How astonishing! How focused them must have been right from the beginning. And here I am boiling milk in a bartan  and hoping that a miracle would do some kirtan! But, not that I am writing this to you is not because I am sad or at a state of contemplation. Remember I once said? Feel whatever you are feeling and let it pass. The more you hold back a feeling and resist it, the more it amplifies to raise delusions. I follow that.  My feeling of contemplation has passed and then it reckoned in my...

The Making of a Villain

Image
Guess, we have all heard it million times that we are not born a villain. Our upbringing makes our personality. And sometimes our choices too.  When a person begins to feel that his or her negative sides are a better companion for their survival, things begin to take a turn differently. Nobody is born a villain. No parent choice fully teaches their child to lie, to deceit, to take revenge or to become selfish. It is someone's circumstances and an outburst of their inner agony that leads to the seeding of such personality traits.  As a person begins to feel comfortable being a liar, truth seems like a heavier burden. As a person begins to feel profited by cheating and betrayal strategies, honesty feels like a choke in the gut. As a person begins to feel relieved by harming people, forgiveness feels like a guiltier ride. As a person enjoys the privileges' that come with a selfish behaviour, there is no turning back from that guilty pleasure, is there? People do not choose ...

Perception is the Smallest Chunk

Image
My current job profile provides me the scope of exploring many business methods, learning methods and analytical tools. Although my academics had seen long years of commercial application, I had not been accustomed to these tools and learning methods. It’s not so that I had learned any less in my school and college curriculum. Perhaps the academic degree that I got in school is the reason why I am learning these at my professional stage. I have recently come to this learning method called ‘chunking’. Google says that it is “a process by which small individual pieces of a set of information are bound together to create a meaningful whole later on in memory”. It is very useful in retaining information and also in connecting the dots between small pieces of information to find the bigger picture. This insight grew in me a different thoughtfulness. It showed me how my chunk of a small perspective towards my academic and professional learning affects my approach to my current standing of ...

The Aesthetic Keeda

Image
Three years ago, at a college event, our HOD called me and my classmate to select the names of a few segments. It was for bidding goodbye to our seniors then. To have the fun heightened up, Sir suggested of including a segment where the senior class boys will be asked to flaunt their physique (with clothes on, of course!). We laughed. So, sir asked what a quirky name for it can be. My classmate and I first thought of "Muscle Maniacs". Sir asked for something closer to the idea. So, I suggested " ang pradarshan".  Both of them had big wrinkles and wide disapproval all over their face. Sir repeated the word 'no' at least five to six times, followed by the phrase, "That sounds so sick and cheap". I murmured "It is what it is?" Sir went on going, "Something classier and aesthetic."  Now, come on the senior boys showing off their muscles didn't seem classy to me, rather more wild. They came up with something aesthetic  that had...

Growing Up demands more Patience, Communication, Strength and Self-Belief

Growing up didn't bring Solitude, Pain, Anxiety and Suffocation along. I repeat.    Growing up didn't bring Solitude, Pain, Anxiety and Suffocation along. All it is, t hat we forgot to see, that growing up demanded more sincerity and patience. All your personal problems, career problems demand a better understanding and attention. Like the Charlie Puth's song-  " You just want attention, You don't want my heart" Growing Up just demands your attention. It doesn't want to fill sadness or darkness in your heart. It is only asking you to shift your attention, shift your perspective to building up solutions.  You will feel trapped physically when you are mentally stuck into an emotion. You need to free yourself from that. Growing up means growing your strength. You will feel entangled into your environment when you feel stuck into your life's situation. You need to build your path yourself. Growing up demands growing more your self dependence. You will fe...

Why Moving Ahead is more important than Moving On.

It is like a ‘backspace’ and a ‘cancel’ option through online transactions. Suppose you are shopping four or five items on Myntra, and suddenly you feel the need to evaluate your selections. It can be the size of a t-shirt. It can be the quantity of a product. Or you might wish to check more additional vouchers over your shopping items. But over all these various possibilities you will not cancel the entire transaction and reselect items from the wish list to the shopping bag. (This is not a brand endorsement. So buyers from different online sites, please focus!) It is a simple game. All you need to do is a press the ‘Go Back’ arrow and make the needful changes. So is Life. Moving Ahead in life means getting rid of the clutter which life has brought with itself. Perhaps you are experiencing conflict in a certain areas of your life. Your choices are not in alignment with the effects you had considered. You are reconsidering your opinions about a person, or a business deal, or c...

Time is Always Right

Few weeks ago, I had spent a very beautiful time with a friend of mine. Some weeks later to that day things in his life sprung up badly, to worse, to me getting blocked. Yeah… That day, he saw a tiny line on my palm, left or right I don’t remember and he said, “Muskan, you’ll get everything on time in life. The right things will come to you at the right time”. I laughed and said “amen”. Then he showed me his palm, there were three lines between two fingers, and he said, “I’ll get everything much late than I am supposed to.” And I said, “Okay that makes sense, that’s why I have found you at my right time, and you’ve found me late” and we laughed. ( I smiled while writing this ). Anyways. The centre of attention of this stance is, the fact that he had been told that things will show up late in his life from when he is ‘supposed to’ is the epicentre behind all the trouble. He believes this. He has more faith on this superstition than God, than his hard work, than his abilities....

Life at Riddles

A few while ago, a friend of mine complained, "Muskan, nothing is helping. Thoda sa kuch sahi hota hai , and then it all comes back to the same place" Do you face that too? Sometimes, life plays with us. It shoots a problem at you. With no escape. You ask yourself questions, and then you find certain answers. You follow the path. One answer leads to another answer. Then to yet another answer. It gives you a sense of victory until you come back to the same point. To the same question. You find yourself stuck into that same square of problems. Like the square of one is always one :) And life says, "HOWZ THAT" But why does that happen so? Aren't experiences in life supposed to teach us and make us better? Yes. They are. Sometimes we keep coming back to square one because we keep finding solutions to our comfort zones. We keep try to reach a particular faraway point by stretching our hands to the utmost. We don't even try to move our limbs :) When problems keep ...

Life stays on Wheels. Not on Brakes

Life stays on wheels. We take a break. You and I take a break from responsibilities and pleasures. Because a continuous of everything becomes a load. Be it a work or merriment.  We all need a break from social protocols to be ourselves. Sometimes we are so spiraled with the wheels of life that taking out times for ourselves feels like stealing. People get hurt. Lovers fail to co-operate. Parents disapprove. Friends fall apart. But it's just a break. Isn't it? You and I just need a break from social spirals. We end up stealing time from our own timeline. And that can happen on your couch or with money on your pouch!! We go to a place. It doesn't have to be beautiful. Lest it suits our vibe, our energy. We enjoy our short trip. But no matter how cool, serene, joyful and happening that trip (or a person) was, we don't stay there. We have to come back to life. Because life stays on wheels, not on brakes. We take a break so we can keep staying on the wheels.
