The Greatness of Gratefulness

I had been so enchanted by the idea of the cosmic numbers that every time I would see 11:11, I would start uttering all the nicest things I have been waiting, working and praying for. You know right? The idea of 11:11 and 3:33- the magical numbers that are a sign that the Universe is listening to you.


Now, suppose each time your boyfriend or girlfriend comes to meet you, they start telling you about all the ‘pending things’ that you are supposed to bring them. No appreciation for the ice-cream the other day, no thank you for the happy cinema date, no kisses for the love you keep giving them- no, nothing. Just a trail of ‘things to do’, like Myntra and Flipkart has ‘things to buy’.

Applications can work like that, (even they ask for platform fee and good reviews).

Relationships don’t.

At one time, you would get tired of that ingrate and begin to regret.

Mind you, this was just an example. If you think of yourself to be carrying a relationship with the Universe/cosmos/God… (whichever word fits your faith), you would realize something.

A something on why your prayers is not being listened to even when they are sent at 11:11. And for my part? I realized this walking at speed six on a treadmill when the timer stuck 11:11. As soon as the time got 11:11, all my concentration shifted to rushing inside me head and find my empty spaces of life and just pass out a silent prayer of “something to be fixed”. And I thought, why do I never say a thank you when I see this number? Would not the Universe or my Cosmic powers be happy that I am grateful for being nominated for a literary award? 


Would the 11:11 become useless, if I just show my gratefulness for being back home at a hectic day with a smile?

But no, I get a chance to be in direct connection with the cosmic powers, and here I am- asking- not appreciating- not being grateful- just asking to bring me this, fix that, pass the test- blah, blah, blaaaaaah!

A few months back, I was watching Miraculous Ladybug (go on, judge me, I don’t care {secretly I do} …) and the finale episode showed an insect shaped genie, coming out of her magical spell and asking, “what is it- what good news is it?” Then the character tells her about his wish and She states, “Why is it, that every time you humans summon me, it is because you are sad and have something to complain? Why am I never invited by anyone when something good happens in their life?”

It was an animated cartoon- with a message- larger than life.

People who understand and believe in the Law of Attraction, this is for you-

Can you treat Universe, as an entity, not just a spreadsheet of to-do list? Universe shall be much happier to do your work, fulfill your prayers and simplify the complicated turns of life- if only it gets appreciated. This article is not about being an illusionist and mumbling at a corner- “Hey Universe, thank you for the promotion”.

This essay piece is about treating Universe/cosmic powers/God as an entity with emotions, who would love you for being appreciated and being given a shoutout- “Hey Universe, thank you for the stepping stones of my life! I have grown a lot since last time!”

So, next time the clock strikes 11:11 or 3:33
and you know the Universe is listening to you-
make sure, you are giving Universe a reason to keep listening to you.

 Do you really think that writers or painters have a pattern in being mused and amusing you? Do you really think that it is practically possible for any writer to wake up in the morning with a new hunch and inject in you a motivational punch? Haa! Maybe you don't. What is so difficult about Trying?

Over the last few days, I have been playing basketball in my courtyard. It is nothing professional. It is just a recreational activity without a cemented court or rules. My mother had planned to tuck a basket at a good enough height at the anterior wall, and now I have been playing basketball, where my premium activity is to basket the ball without anyone snatching it away from my hands.  Let me tell you a secret? It is very tiring. Almost equal to giving up.  Every time I throw the ball above at it, the ball either gets hit on the wall and bounces back (not at me) at the other end of the yard. I would rush to catch it (without success) and run till the end of the fences where the ball had almost nowhere to go.
